Abstract Fibonacci
This series of paintings was inspired by the double spirals that are found in nature.
Fibonacci was an Italian mathematician, born about 1170. Besides introducing Hindu-Arabic numbers to Europe, he discovered a series of numbers now known as the Fibonacci series:
1 1 2 3 5 8 13 21 34 55 89 144 and so on,
each number is the sum of the previous two;
1+1=2
1+2=3
2+3=5
3+5=8
Nature just loves these numbers, they can be found in the double spirals of pine cones, pineapples, in the arrangement of spines on cacti, and palm fronds on palm trees, in caulifowers, cabbages, brussels: why nauture is so fond of these numbers is a mystery to me.
